Welcome to the Striving to Thriving Youth Quote Library. Here you’ll find a curated collection of more than 5,700 quotes from young people ages 15-22 living in communities across the United States. In the library you can see how young people describe their multifaceted identities, how they understand and apply meaning to language around job, work and career, how they think about and assign value to relationships, networking and connections, and their future goals and the education and career choices they believe will lead them there. You can also view additional notes on curation, categories and filters.
“Good work ethic.”
“The potential upsides [of owning your own business], the bonus is that it’s a challenge, I guess. It’s something that not a lot of people do. And if you do it successful, then it’s good and really good money.”
“End goal is to own my own record label. I started with today and then the next step is graduate college. After that it would be start a portfolio, so probably make music videos for songs that already exist and put them on YouTube. The next step would probably be reaching out to local bands, show them what I can do so I can offer to make music videos for them. Then I would probably want to throw little shows at my house, get all the local talent together. Hopefully, after doing that enough times I will have established a name for myself and then go from there.”
“If I could handle all the hindrances and the thorns in my path.”
“I also feel this way as I was raised by my mom, and she worked really hard but still doesn’t bring in that much money, and I want to have an opportunity to be able to take the path that I want.”
“I think my parents are supportive with what I want to do and they help me.”
“I put down ABC. ABC stands for attitude, behavior and communication. I feel…in order to be successful with that career or something you always have to keep in mind that you have to have the attitude that we see every day and that it is the way you communicate to other people. Connections, I put a community, an environment. We may have something similar going on within our household or just the environment that we live in and become cool off of that because of the connections that we have where we are able to relate.”
“Because like things as kids, we went through like 100 different aspirations in a week. Now is the time for all of us to fully decide what the aspiration is going to be.”
“[It’s important to know] who to talk to…I can maybe just think of like an example, though. What if somebody’s trying to get into like the sort of architecture sort of business, and you’re like – say I just got outta school for architecture, but I don’t know anybody who could maybe put me in like their sort of company. I’m gonna need to look for somebody who’s a part of like an architecture sort of company to get me to where I wanna get to get to really be a part of that. So, I would need to look for the people to get me to where I wanna be, so.”
“Financial stability, retirement, dream job, fulfillment, flexible schedule, corporate retreats…Yeah. When you, in my business, when you’re in your career, you’re in a certain threshold the way you can be able to create your own schedule. And so I’m just like, you know, if it’s Thursday and it’s beautiful outside, I got to just call my secretary, and I’m gone for Thursday and Friday. I’ll see you guys on Monday. Just email me for any updates or any last-minute changes. So that’s what I mean by flexible scheduling. You in a safe threshold with your career where you kind of can create your own…or schedule, as long as you handle your main goals and priorities and…you know. We all don’t like to punch the clock all the time or feel like, damn, if I be late one more time, they going to write me up like for 160…being wrote up. You know, just those, I don’t know, smaller things that I think that you, that can piss you off about the little smaller…”
